topshop_treggingI’ll admit. We get pretty excited when we receive ‘Topshop Style Notes’ updates in our inboxes. As expected, today’s mail inspired immediate reaction. This and this found a home in a our shopping basket. Most importantly we were amused by fresh terminology. Topshop has taken responsibility in coining ‘jeggings’ the new name for the jean or denim leggings invention, a cotton, polyester, spandex mix … in essence, the skinniest of skinny jeans or the stretchiest of stretch jeans.

Maybe it’s a British term in general, we remember spotting these ‘floral jeggings’ at ASOS back in March; twice a trend. Clearly maximum comfort is in mind for summer. We’ll cosign I guess … we like that they won’t get baggy after a wear or two and bunch up at the knees but these are a bit too expensive in our opinion, at $70 when I’ve been ogling a pair at Zara for $39.90. fethebloglogo_signI don’t know if we’re quite ready to make jeggings a part of our lingo but we found a bit of humor in Topshop’s initiative. They also described this pair as the Indigo Knitted ‘Tregging‘.  We aren’t embarassed to say that we don’t get the origins of the prefix used there. Trousers maybe?

It ain’t easy bein’ a Dimepiece

Posted in Your Fashion Fix by Staff on March 31, 2009

fethebloglogo_signOver at the Dimepiece website today, I found a lot of goodies worth sharing. The Spring 2009  collection entitled ‘Plastic City‘ has been announced and the lookbook is up. It’s just as impressive as we expected. Take a look for yourself. These girls have a really keen eye. They are doing their own thing and we’re paying considerable attention. Considering that we are loyal [Hellz] Bellz over here, we have to admit the girls over at Dimepiece are stiff competition. Our pockets are officially itching.

We also noticed a little frustration at their News blog section, updated with images of Kill City product that bear a very unsettling likeness to the brand’s own ‘LA leggings’. We definitely appreciate our fair share of copycats though some might say it’s bad etiquette … particularly when some $2,392,374,623,947 designer style is made more accessible through a certain chain store … cough Forever 21 cough H&M. We usually turn our noses up for a second, then run out to claim the prize. However, Kill City we don’t believe you. You need more people. These ‘GPS leggings’ are knocks off in the worst way and don’t stand up. They’re obviously on sale available in every single size because they are second rate. And, we hate to put you on blast because your jeans are killer!

The take home message though is that the people are feeling it and you know what they say … imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Dimepiece’s design had long ago sold out. By the time I  even decided to inquire further, they were gone. Besides, i’ve never even been to Los Angeles I figured. I’m a New Yorker born and raised.

We’re way excited because the girls spilled that a New York pair is in the works for Fall ’09! The fashion gods heard our prayers. We are so down.

Oh yeah, Kill City can kill themselves immediately.

put your right leg in

Posted in Your Fashion Fix by Staff on December 3, 2008

I just loved this article in the NY Times about lace tights. I think stand out hosiery has always been an important aspect of fall collections. And from a child, leg wear has always been a staple of my personal style. Of course, over time my choices have become far more luxe and modern in comparison to the colorful, polka-dotted or striped tights of school days passed.

“… It seems like you put a lot of thought into your outfit, but it couldn’t be easier.”

I’ve received more compliments pairing unique pantyhose with structured little black dresses than I have in an expensive dress I splurged on for a special ocassion. You’ll find they are a reasonably priced update to a simple look though recognize designer styles like the Chanel ones we love featured in the first photo can set you back hundreds of dollars! Wow!

pegleg nyc: women’s fall 08

Posted in Your Fashion Fix by Staff on October 30, 2008

I’ve got a dangerous crush on the Pegleg NYC boys: Harry McNally, Bobby Waltzer and Nick Poe. I really don’t talk about them … well the brand atleast … enough on here. I don’t even know what they look like. Every season, they reliably furnish full mens’ lines i’d want to wear around all the time. If it is any indication of the trio’s personal styles, I can already tell you that I just want to hang out with them all the time and raid their closets.

Obviously, i’m excited about their newly introduced batch of Fall 2008 dopeness for the ladies. They have officially extended my personal invitation to the club and i’m more than ready to oblige them. I can’t get my mind off of the floral leggings … but they also give us a selection of jeans, buffalo plaid tunics and shirts with the same laid-back, boyish energy.

The lookbook features Isabelle McNally and Vashtie Kola.

Leggings Anyone?

Posted in hell yes, lunch money by Staff on June 10, 2008

Please don’t ask my opinion on the Pants vs. Leggings debate. I’m most definitely for a fly pair of leggings. And yes, I certainly do wear them as pants to an effect. I haven’t put them on with cropped tops or baby tees though I can’t say I wouldn’t have tried it if I was a petite woman with a tiny, tight behind. I tend to rock them with my kicks and an over-sized graphic tee or long tunic knits and sweaters during the colder seasons. It’s quick and easy and the right pair will lend a bit of punk or glam in one simple accessory. In general, I’ve always been pro leg wear in all shades, fabrics, and designs … the bolder the better … and when I discovered Costume Dept., it was really an orgasmic experience. The current collection is the first run for the L.A. company so I’m anticipating even better things in the future. The prices are pretty reasonable and I guarantee there’s something for anyone who appreciates a fab pair of leggings that aren’t from your nearest American Apparel!
